How it Works:
We,
Scott Marine Services (referred to as SMS) will provide fully
furnished, self catering,
accommodation in our newly acquired apartment/flat at Devonside,
Tillicoultry on a weekly basis. For the ease of typing and clarity
of description we will refer to this property as the SMS
Flat.
A full description of the flat and its facilities is provided from the
left hand menu link. You will see that centrally located Tillicoultry
provides an excellent accommodation base for your visit to Scotland
(click on the Scotland Map on our 'Where To Go' page to see the central
location of the SMS Flat). Alternatively, full board accommodation can
be supplied on Willow at the Falkirk Wheel at our normal 'hotelboat
tariff'.
If staying at the SMS Flat, you pay SMS a 'core accommodation fee' for a weeks rental of the SMS
Flat. We (SMS) will then provide the services,
activities, use of SMS equipment, etc, to build your holiday. Where
equipment and services are provided directly by SMS, you
incur no
extra cost. Where we need to pay fees to third parties, we do pass the
expense on to clients, but only on an 'at cost basis'. Clients are
responsible for travel costs to and from the SMS Flat at the start and
end of their stay.The
concept of how our costing system works is quite hard to describe - so
let's provide some illustrative examples....
Example 1:
Having paid the 'core accommodation fee' for the SMS Flat, clients want to spend a
couple of days 'wild camping' and walking in the Forestry
areas just east of Loch Awe. SMS provide the use of camping equipment
(already owned by SMS so no additional charge) for the agreed 2 day use
The guests are taken to and from the venue by SMS using the SMS Land
Rover (approx 80 miles taking 2 hours each way) - there would be no
charge for the transportation or wear and tear of the vehicle, but SMS
would charge an 'at cost' fee for the fuel used.
Example 2: Having paid the 'core accommodation fee' for the SMS Flat, guests are taken to the Falkirk Wheel and then on to Edinburgh to 'see the sights'. SMS provide their time and vehicle transport on the round trip. The clients pay their own fees to the Falkirk Wheel boat trip and for admission into Edinburgh Castle. The guests pay the 'at cost' fee for the fuel used, and for their own refreshments etc. This is just an illustrative example - in practice using Willow for the Falkirk Wheel/Edinburgh trip would be more cost effective.
Example 3: Having paid the 'core accommodation fee' for the SMS Flat, guests are taken to Glasgow (using the SMS vehicle), where they catch a train to Fort William to link in with the Fort William to Mallaig Steam train trip, returning a day or more later. The guests pay for the train tickets and accommodation etc whilst away. They also pay the 'at cost ' fee for the fuel used taking them to and from Glasgow, but not for the time taken by SMS in doing so.
We hope that the above examples illustrate the basis of our system. Having paid the 'core accommodation fee' guests get the use of the provided SMS owned equipment at no extra cost (we would not charge for fair wear and tear but the property does need to be returned in reasonable condition). Our own time (within reason) is provided at no extra cost. We make no fee for the planning aspects. Where we need to use a third party for specific and agreed arrangements, we will pass on actual costs incurred but undertake to avoid 'profiteering'.
